Help to import xls file into MySQL table

Hi,

I am going to build a little mysql database.
I would like to import some data directly from a excel files.
In other words I whant to update Internet contents by inserting new records on my table.

My xls file has not only data to import but also some images and text inside.

I have not too much expirience about, usally I use a .txt file but in this case I shoud use xls file directly.

Is it possible to do something like that ?
Which is the easyest way ?
