PHP & Microsoft SQL 2000 on 2000 server

Hi,

Can anybody help me,

I am new to the whole PHP thing and in need of some sound advice.

I have a task to access a SQL 2000 database using PHP on apache running under windows 2000.

I have attempted to connect to a sql database but I get the following error:
"Call to undefined function: mssql_connect()"

If anyone can provide some step by step instructions as to how to access a SQL 2000 database then it would be very much appreciated.

Apache cannot talk with your SQL server directly. Either you switch to use Microsoft IIS web server, which probably is not the case for you right now, or you can learn how to use ODBC and freeTDS to connect to SQL Server. But it is not easy.

Using IIS web server sounds like a pretty good work around saving the apache hassle.

Is that done through configuring IIS manually and then using TDS?
