Increase Max size of field in MySQL

how can I increase the Max size of field in table in a data base in MySQL ?

Go to www.mysql.com and look at the alter table syntax.

I visited that site, but what I want is to change the max. allowed size of field in Table in MySQL data base.
In other word, when I try to upload a text in a certian field. Thier is a limit for the text size which can I upload. How can I change this limit?
