Kill MySQL?

I am not root, I do not own the process, and I can't get in via mysql or mysqladmin (mysql.sock is missing, and doesn't get written on reboot) -- how can I shutdown the server? I need to restart the server with some different options (obviously!), but can't get in.

I have access to a user account that cannot create dbs or tables...can I execute a shutdown query from a php page?

Nope. Remember that you still need to provide a user/pass in the webpage so you're still going to be running as a restricted access user. Have you tried emailing the sysadmin to let them know of the problem?
