remote data access

can any one help me
i want to retrive data from excel sheet of a remote system in to my SQL server database.
is this possible?

No idea really....never tried it. Is the excel sheet the only data format option? Could you have "them" give you the data via ASCII delimited text file instead?

Which protocol are you using to download the data? HTTP, FTP, SCP???

Which operating system, and which scripting language options do you have?

well i use ftp and excel is the only format available..
and please i dont prefer a web based application

Sure, it's possible if you do it manually. I'm assuming you're using Windoze (which makes me think you might be better served in a MS forum). You could set up a batch file, or a VBScript to run with scheduler to download the file via FTP automatically. How you would auto-import it into SQL Server via non-SQL syntax...well, you're on your own ;-)
