2 MySql questions

1. When entering data into Mysql and you realize you've made an error up a couple of lines, how do you get back there to correct it without backspacing and erasing all your work?

2. I am learning php and Mysql from a book, the book includes a cd with the soucr code on it, apparently you can copy the sql from the disk into your Mysql, so you don't have to manually enter everything, but I can't figure out hopw to do this, any suggestions?

1. Do you mean that you've entered wrong data? If so, you can use the UPDATE command. If you're working on a lengthy query or other command, it's best to put that into a file and redirect, it which leads to number 2-

2. At the OS command line, entering mysql < somefile will tell mysql to execute all the lines in somefile.

This is helpful for setting up tables, entering complex queries, entering lots of data etc.

Just remember to put the commands in somefile like you would at the command prompt. eg:

use databasename;
create table blah blah;
insert into blah;
select * from blah;

etc.

K thanks, yeah like if I forget a ',' or something along the way and I need to add that in, I have been using the backspace key, but that erases everytihng I type after where the comma should've been...does that make sense?

So I should download the sql script from the cd and save as a file, then point to there?

So if I save it in mydocuments, then I would
put mysql<my documents/books.sql ?
