I've been having serious problems with the AUTO_INCREMENT feature of mySQL. I developed on my server at home (version 3.23.49a-Max), and I've now moved it onto the live server (version 3.23.37).
Before doing so I researched how the AUTO_INCREMENT feature was supposed to work. In the DuBuois book it says very clearly that versions of mySQL prior to 3.23 reuse numbers, whereas 3.23 and above do not. (i.e. in 3.23+, if the highest count is 100, and I delete records 90-100, and then add a new one, it's index will still be 101).
However when I started running this on the live server, I found it was not the case. I spoke with tech support at my hosting company, and they said that they don't make any changes to the mySQL configuration.
So what's going on?
