database special characters

i'm trying to INSERT a time into the database.

ie Monday, 10 June 2002 05:01 pm.

but i get an error message like
SQL error: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Syntax error in INSERT INTO statement.

i also have this other problem of single or double quotes in messages i want to retrieve from the database. i would like to make
blaa blaa \'\" blaa blaa
to
blaa blaa '" blaa blaa

use timestamp to insert a time into a mySQL, set the field as timestamp and set the entry to now()...

use the stripslashes() function to remove the slashes from the entry
