Links within text

Sorry to be a complete clueless newbie ...
but if I store a section of text in a MySQL database how can I create a link to a website within that text ? I am a considering converting a site to a database and trying to get answers to some questions before I start.

in my experience it's as simple as adding the a href html in the text for the corresponding URL. This way when you print out he database it will only display the link and the <a href bla bla bla

So does this mean that any HTML coding such as image links can be stored in the same text and will be correctly interpreted by the browser.
Sorry if this appears to be a stupid question but I am completely new to this area.
