BEGINNER...how to make it fleksible

I'm using PHP,HTML and oracle8. If I want to call a data from my html input. And it's written manually.
When I write in the same kind of letter with data in the database, it's work. When i write it in different kind, it doesn't work.
I write the letter in capital and not.
Can anyone help me how to make it fleksible.
I meant the data could be called in capital and not capital letter.

try

$sql = "select * from mytable where column1 = '" . $myChoice . "'";

then pass $sql down to the database.

$myChoice is the data from your form. Once you have that working then you can look at extending your query.
