I had a thought about mysql and thought of an example and wondered if this is possible. Lets pretend I am restaurant owner. I display my menu online. The menu is called from mysql and shows all the dishes that I can serve up.
I am given the facility to update my menu and add new recrds as new dishes are intorudced. This inturn updates my main menu online.
I was wondering if it possible to add entries in to the middle of exisiting ones, instead of it appearing at the top or bottom of the menu.
There is one way I could possibly get round this.
Enter the I.D numbers manually but each i.d goes up 20 each time, giving me space to add new dishes in between.
The menu then be called in numerical order.
I was thinking is it possible to set auto_id to step up 20 each time. When a new dish needs to be added 1 would be added to the I.D above therefore giving me a new record number and therefore allowing me to add records in between others.
I hope this makes sense, if you have any ideas on how you would do this I would be interested in hearing about it.
