Order by same first characters

hi there!

I would like to have a search function that will show all users who start with a certain string....e.g. if you enter hello then all records such as hello2 hello1978 helloman, helloworld are shown....

How do I do that or is that not advisiable as for the performance?

Please read up on RLIKE in your database manual. Also, when posting, please specify which database you are using, as that will help in assisting you.

SELECT * FROM myTable WHERE fileName RLIKE '^B'

...will provide all rows where fieldName starts with a B.
