How to know if button pressed, with if ?

On a site I have 3 forms. I need to check which submit has been pressed down, in order to know which query to run.

In ASP I solved the problem this way
if (Request.Form('press3').Count > 0)
{

The submit button had the id/name PRESS3.

How can I do the same thing in PHP?

I guess I first need to fetch it
$press3 = $_POST['press3'];

how will the if look then?

give the 3 submit buttons different names then when the user clicks it it will have a variable created with it's name, the other buttons won't.

therefore

if (isset($press3))
dostuff();
else if (isset(...

or you could have 3 forms with hidden variables and when data is added to the visible form the other three forms are updated using javascript.
