Actually it's not smart putting binairy data in mysql, 'cause the db would grow way to big. Instead, use php to generate thumbnails, do an INSERT in the db, and then save the image with a filename that consists of an abbreviation and the mysql_insert_id as a number (eg. tn_35.gif). Tis way you'll have unique images that are automaticly connected with the db!
