html form to search my sql database

I want to create a simple form to search a mysql database.

I want to search on keyword, I want to be able to select the location (by drop down list or checkbox) and the table to search in (four possible tables in one my sql db: it, short courses, long courses and languages)

something like MS Word(name of the course) in Belgium (location) table searched would than be the it table

is this possible? and can someone show me how

I can search a db on keyword but when the checkboxes come in, I'm getting confused. This is already on our homepage, but we want to extend the search possibilities a bit.

Assuming the value returned from the coursetype dropdown is held by a variable called $coursetype and that each table has a column for location and coursename.

$sqlstring = "select * from $coursetype where location = '$location' and coursename = '$coursename'";

echo $sqlstring

// copy the $sqlstring from and check it against mysql to ensure it works.

then put $sqlstring into your database query code and see how you go.

If you decide to use checkboxes just check what each returns and set the $location value accordingly.
