how to retreive the recent records(MYSQL

Please tell me a way to retreive the latest records from the database. I mean the query to do it.

The database is populated every hour.
the no.of records i insert every time is not constant. And insertion is done by a different program. i cant change that.

i have to retreive the latest records and sort them in a order withrespect to a field.

can anyone help me wiht this query.

is there any key word to retreive the latest records.

try something like this

select * from table where id = max(id)

paulsbooker

select * from tbl_name order by id desc limit 3

will only work if you have an auto_increment id field. change 3 to the number of records you want to display.
