Looking for good database.

I am looking for best database. I want to create a database accessible trough WEB using PHP. It will consists about 50 tables. Each table will have around 20-30 columns usually varchar(200). I estimated that most of these tables will have more then 1000 rows.

Can somebody tell me what should be the best choice for such database? I need fast access to these tables.

If you are looking for fast selects you probably want MySQL.

If you are looking for robust with little cost you probably want PostgreSQL/Sybase.

If you are looking for an enterprise soloution with redundancy and failover capibilities and a 24hr help line then you should look at Oracle/Informix/MSSQL or any one of the other big guys.

To clarify that a bit: if your database is basically read-only as far as the users are concerned (e.g. a publishing site) MySQL will probably be fastest. But PostgreSQL is no slouch in performance, either, and if the clients are performing lots of updates in the database PostgreSQL will peform better.
