How do I store Greek Characters in MySQL

How do I store Greek Characters in MySQL database ?

I have the entire data file ready in Excel in Greek language.

When I try to import the file via MySQL ODBC from Access database, it stores the
Greek characters as ? (question marks).

What do i need to do inorder to have Greek and also Korean language support on MySQL database.

What i did to get Cyrillic out of a MS-WORD-document into a MySQL table was this:

if you save to HTML the characters are written something like #1039 , i didn't like that at all. so i saved it again from within my browser to get it into another characterset.

than i looked in the source of my new HTML- document, and inserted what i saw there into my table.

I inserted ARABIC characters into a mysql database, well, where did you see the ? marks, when you queryed the database and viewed it in a browser ?
You might just need to change the language encoding prefrences of your browser

How did you manage to insert Arabic characters in mySQL database.

I see '?' in place of the Greek characters on broswer when viewing the page that comes out of querying from mySQL. The same '?' is seen at the mySQL prompt. Again it is seen on my Access database that is connected to mySQL via ODBC.

What do i do to have Greek characters stored in the database ?

I think the problem is with your browser, if you're using windows with Internet Explorer, click view -> encoding and change the encoding to greek, the same as if you're viewing a regular greek website. Thats how it worked with me, .. in my case, it showed ?? marks at the mysql prompt (because i ran it in the dos prompt, which has no arabic support).

Also, my case might have been a little different, it was a guest book that inserts queries directly into MySQL

Although I am a new user in Linux and MySQL, I think that I can help you. There is one program freeware, the DBTools for Windows. With this program insert data in a MySQL database from table of a database MyAccess. So, if you have greek in Windows, then you can store greek characters in MySQL.
I don't know how I help you but I tried...

When uploading foreign chartacters to MYSQL
- the data must be encoded to unicode then uploaded.

What you could do is highlight the entire excel sheet and copy it into MS Word. Then save as Encoded Text, Greek ISO.. once its in encoded text form, you can then upload it to myql.

Also, when displaying the data to the browser it helps to specify the language type:

<META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Type" CONTENT="text/html; charset=iso-8859-7"> - is for Greek.
