MacOSX<->postgreSQL installation?!?

I've been trying to install postgreSQL on Mac OS X but when i doing the configuration to prepare postgre for installation i get the message that "configure does not currently recognize your operating system, therefore you must do a manual configuration of: rhapsody5.6". How do i do this?!? If postgreSQL doesn't work on OS X, are there any other databases that php can directly connect to (w/o ODBC) that work on OS X? PLEASE HELP!!!

Ahem, MacOS X is based on the mach kernel and is about 99% BSD + a pretty GUI. So yes, it is a Unix-like OS.

The Mac OS X final release includes two files in the /usr/libexec directory.

config.guess
config.sub

copy these to your postgres source location then run configure.

These files include the info for the configure file to recognize the host.

There are also issues with shared libaries and you may need the libtool patch.
