Problem with reading a varchar datafield

I try to read ou the date from a table with the type varchar-
If i enter the data via web-mask, up to 1023 chare entered should be 8000 char possible- according to the character definition module of the MS-SQL server

Here my problem if i read out the data i receive only 255 chars form the fiel there are entered much more!

Under MySQL the varchar type can only hold 255 characters...for larger blocks of text use the 'text' datatype
