use PHP to get PostgreSQL affect rows

Can someone tell me how to use PHP or PL/SQL to get the PostgreSQL select/update/delete result affect rows?

I would like to optimize my SQL statement instead of putting extra select count(*) to check the possible affect rows before the next select/update/delete operation take action.

As always, manuals are your friend. The second item on the "postgresql" section is:

pg_cmdTuples -- returns number of affected tuples

I try to follow your method but eventually come out this error: This compilation does not support pg_cmdtuples() in XXX....

My PHP version is 4.03pl1, running on WindowsNT server, and PostgreSQL 7.0.2, running on Redhat Linux 6.2.

Can you tell me what is the main problem?

Sorry, I have not a clue. I had no idea it was possible (other than by butchering the source) to omit an individual one of the PostgreSQL support functions like this. It seems to me there is something wrong with your installation perhaps...
