Undefine mysql command

Hi, i have install mysql and php into my Linux Redhat 6.2. The mysql i use is compile from source and for the php i using the rpm version. I have tested individually that the mysql and php works. I wrote php code and when i run in my web browser it give me error undefine command for the line with mysql_connect. wonder anyone can advise me if i need to set anything for mysql to work in php?? Thanks

You need to compile PHP from source and include the --with-mysql configure option.

go here and dl the mysql rpm, easy.
u might have to dl mod_php too.

here if u have P Pro, PII or PIII

So must i uninstall the old php rpm and which rpm should i choose?? Does i need to uninstall mysql too ?? if yes how to uninstall a source compiled mySQL. Thanks

well, if i understand correcty, u have installed php from an RPM, and have a working MySQL database? but u need php to talk to that database, so go here:

for Pentium Pro/II/III processors:
http://rpms.arvin.dk/php/install-ready/i686/

for all Pentium-class servers:
http://rpms.arvin.dk/php/install-ready/i586/

downlaod the mod_php and php-mysql RPM's listed install them in that order, and php should be able to talk to MySQL.

You shouldn't need to uninstall anything.

Well i used php3+ rpm , think need to uninstall is it ??

i would recommend putting php 4.0.4 on by either unistalling 3 then installing 4 or just upgrading it, with php 4 u should have no MySQL problems anymore (u can get it from the same site.)

Kevin , i not sure the problem is solve, i did what you told and manage to install succesfully. But there is a message as follow "Warning : Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock(111) in /home/httpd/html/query.php on line 2"

Is there some configuration i miss out?? Thanks
