well, if i understand correcty, u have installed php from an RPM, and have a working MySQL database? but u need php to talk to that database, so go here:
for Pentium Pro/II/III processors:
http://rpms.arvin.dk/php/install-ready/i686/
for all Pentium-class servers:
http://rpms.arvin.dk/php/install-ready/i586/
downlaod the mod_php and php-mysql RPM's listed install them in that order, and php should be able to talk to MySQL.
You shouldn't need to uninstall anything.
