mysql problem

Hello, I have come across something strange in mysql that has never happened to me before.. quick explanation: I am storing phone numbers in the format of XXX-XXXX. My column is defined as varchar(15) (extra in case i need area codes) well, mysql doesn't like to recognize these phone numbers and instead replaces them with two digit numbers.. so all down my phone column it looks like this:
00
08
47
00
23
43

etc.. this is really frustrating.. anyone know what could be causing this and how to fix it?

Are you putting quotes around the phone numbers when you insert them? If not, it seems like it would just subtract the last 4 digits from the first 4 - I don't know why you'd get 2-digit numbers. Just a thought.

Have you tried printing the query that inserts the numbers?
Like Keegan said, you might be having a problem with PHP subtracting the numbers before giving them to MySQL. I don't think it's a quote problem, because MySQL has a way of complaining about unquoted strings.

Also, if you get the numbers in PHP as Interegers, then all leading zeros will be removed.
