why i can't use oci function

my system is linux redhat 6.2,apache 1.3.12
oracle 8.1.6
and i have compile php and apache using
reference --with-oracle
i can use ora function,but i can't use oci function,why?

You should compile with --with-oci8=[path to OCI]

Ora and Oci functions are distinct functionalities

hi,

my OCI is ok and php is linked to it too, but it says error ORA-12154, and i'm pretty sure this is something with tnsnames.ora, because other programs can't connect either. still jdbc connects ok, so it's not the server. could you help me with the tnsnames? i use 8.1.5.0.2 for linux on both the server & workstations

Here is a sample of tnsnames.ora entry:

MYDB.world=(DESCRIPTION=
(ADDRESS=
(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=111.222.333.444)(PORT=1521))
(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=MYD😎
))

MYDB.world is the name of the identification of the entry.
HOST: The IP Address of the host which hosts the DB
SID: The SID of your DB

Can you assign a name to the Host identification, instead of using the IP address....
