table errors

We have a problem with one of our tables deleting records by itself. We have checked the code that manages the data and it does not seem to be the problem. I have tried to to run isamchk to repair it, but I get:

 isamchk: error: 22 when opening ISAM-table

We have dropped this table and recreated it from a text sql statements, but the problem continues to happen. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

in the absence of info heres a couple of guesses.

1) are you sure its a ISAM table and not a MyISAM table? its curious that you're not able to run isamchk even after recreating the database.

2)is there any pattern to the deletion?

3)if you're logging all of the sql commands sent to mysql, have you checked the log (default location is /var/lib/mysql/ on my box) for any sql deleting rows that you know should not be deleted?

Thank you for your prompt reply.

1. Yes, they are ISM files.

2. There isn't any real pattern that we can tell. It happens very soon after we recreate the table. We enter the backup data of about 80 entries and then a few minutes later it's down to about 30. Then later down to about 7.

3. No I don't have logging turned on. I guess I should do that.

If you have any other suggestions, we would be more than happy to hear them.

at least the data lost is dramatic and obvious, not some slow bleed thats hardly noticable till its drained your database.

error 22 indicates an invalid argument to isamchk (run "perror 22"), check your command when you run isamchk.

even if the sql logging isn't enabled, mysqld should still be outputing any errors into the .err file found in the same dir as the mysql database files.
