converting &, \, -.

A database containing supplier names has something like "jones & jones" and "jones - jones".

I have an array in a drop down list of all the company names which show these "&" and "-" but when I select them to display the information, it goes to the first entry in the drop down list.

I know its a really easy solution, but how do I make these character stop causing this problem?

htmlspecialchars() will convert special HTML charaters (<>'") to their corresponding entities. So use that on each company name before outputting the HTML.
