Here is what I need:
Problem -
1: I have 12,000 people on my email address book.

2: I send email once a week.
3: I get about 400 addme's and 100-200 removeme's each mailing.
4: I personalize each letter. Dear Jerry:..
5: Postmaster will deliver about 100 - 300 bad addresses every mailing. Some of the address are good. If I send them an individual letter some go through.
6: When some people ask to be removed sometimes they send email from an address we never heard of so we can't find them.
7: sometimes we send the email in html
8: I would like to put this on my server.
9: I would like it to be fast
10: I would like it to be simple.

I will put a link to who ever programs this on our site.
Is there any one out there who knows how to do this.

You need a mailing list server like majordomo. There are a few php/perl/cgi scripts that can provide an easy to use interface to the email driven program, or they users can use the text driven / email interface most mail list programs support.

I have never been able to talk to someone who has actually used majordomo. I know it is a free program but there are so many questions.
Will it work with sql?
Can I personalize it?
Will it work on unix?
Where are the php/perl/cgi scripts that work with majordomo?
Do you know of an end user that has a system up and running?

You need to learn how to use a search engine man. You can find 90% questions just by searching google or Yahoo.

I set one up for testing about a year ago (we wound up writing our own since we had simpler needs than what majordomo could do) and it wasn't that complex. I never worried about hooking it up to a database or anything, and once it's set up it's pretty easy to admin.

But, for a beginner, I'd recommend listserv or one of the other easier list servers out there. Also minordomo (I think that's the name) is a mojordomo workalike that is a stripped down version that's much easier to install, admin, and use.

What would you charge me to put your system on a web site.

I called Listserv they wanted between $1,000 and as much as $2,000 to do what I wanted.
If I let them do the email they charge .025 cents per email. I have $12,000 so it would cost me at least $300.00 every email. I do not want to spend 1,200 per week for email ouch.
