search involving two different tables

I want to devise a search engine that will serch through two tables. However, there is really no common field. In short, these two aren't relational in any way.

I figured that I'd be making two separate sql statements to two different tables but how would I combine them in the search results ?

I was hoping to make the results listed in order of number of occurrences. So I just can't make two SQL statements and list them one after the other. I really have to combine them.

Any suggestions ?

I have made such a search.
What I have done is saving the result of the 2 separated searches in an array and then sorting them (according to a percentage of interest) to list the result. There is no difficulty at all with this method but I can send you what I have done if youneed it?
