mysql_fetch_array error

I use the following code to create a simple
authenication system with mySQL:

$row = mysql_fetch_row($result);

if (($pass == $row["password"]))  
   return 1;
else
   return 0;

for some reason, the parser says there's
something wrong with the if statement and
the exact error is:

Parse error: parse error, expecting T_STRING' orT_VARIABLE' or `T_NUM_STRING' in functions.php on line 22

$row = mysql_fetch_row($result);

if ($pass == $row["password"]){
return 1;
}else{
return 0;
}

I don't think that's the problem. I tried that, there's something wrong with the parameters, I suspect.....

Hi,

I think the problem is that mysql_fetch_row only supports numeric indices (e.g. $row[0]).
Use mysql_fetch_array instead.

$row = mysql_fetch_array($result);

if ($pass == $row["password"])
return 1;
else
return 0;

perhaps $result has not get any handle of your query.
you can try:
if($result)
{
$row = mysql_fetch_row($result);
if (($pass == $row["password"]))
return 1;
else
return 0;
}
else
echo "unexpected wrong";

I cut and paste the code from the Wrox professional php programming book and it stops giving me that error, but I believe I didn't type anything wrong. So, I think it might be some spacing issues, may be?
