Transporting a MySql DB

I have set up a mysql database on my pc at home, is it possible to transfer the structure of that database to my webserver and maybe even the Data?

One way to do it is to do a mysqldump of the tables and data. Then import it after you've transfered it to the sever.

I think you can also "select into" entire tables from one database to another (as long as your remote database lets you connect remotely).

Mysql doesn't have system tables, so you can actually copy over the directory named after your database to get an exact copy on the second machine.

MySQL is kinda easy in this respect (but being able to do this reminds me how much I hate table locking 🙂

From what I've read (the article on replication) this doesn't work unless the filesystem is the same.
