Fatal error: Call to undefined function:

Every time i try to run the mysql_connect code in php I get this error message:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: mysql_connect() in /path/to/test.php on line 9

It's a cobalt cube 3 running Lunix.

Please HELP!

This is easy: your PHP was configured and built w/o mysql support. The fix is to reconfig and recompile. This is very easy if you "own" the box, but if you're just using shared space on sombody else's machine, you are at their mercy.

It's my own server, but it is A COBALT. That means that if I install any software to it, I loose my Warranty on it. How can I configure PHP without installing it again? I have PHP4 on it!

I thing that your only thing you have to do is to load the mysql module for php. You do this by adding the following line in /etc/php.ini (or wherever you have this file)

extension=mysql.so

If the source is there, you can reconfig and recompile it. If it's not, then maybe you will have to "install software" according to their definition. (Is that really what the fine print says? Yuck!)

Or if Apache and PHP are already compiled with loadable-module support, AND the mysql module is also present, you can do as Pablo says.

I get teh same error an an redhat 7.1 machine...
but i cant find the mysql.so :/

I can't say how it is in Red Hat, but in Debian there is a package called php4-mysql which contains mysql.so
