MySQL connection

Hello everyone! I am installing mySQl in a Win 98 operating system. After installation when I try to run it from the DOS prompt it gives me this message -"ERROR 2003: Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost'(10061)"

I followed the instruction as appears on this website for installation of PHP,MySQL,Apache,Perl, for Win 98 system. PHP and Apache is running fine but cannot get MySQL to work.

I would greatly appreciate any assistance that you can provide.

Your should start MySQL Server before taking any connection to it.
On DOS prompt C:\mysql\bin , you run mysqld.exe.
And then you can connect MySQL.

Thank you for your advbise Sir.
At the C:\mysql\bin prompt I ran mysqld-shareware.exe <enter>; the mysql server started running; I punched in 'mysql' <enter>;
the client program started running- came up with a welcome nessage.

I am all set to go.

70% of the instruction is accurate here, but a lot of the instruction is missing. I have corrected it and have saved the new set of instructions as a separate MS Word file. I can send that file to you as an attachment if you can give me a regular e-mail address.
