httpd could not start. symbol not found.

Help please.

I installed Apache 1.3.9 on Solaris,
and it worked fine.

THen I installed PHP4 and I guess it automatically included a line in my http.conf file to Load their libphp4.so.
But now I can't start apache!

it gives me this error:

apachectl start

Syntax error on line 208 of /usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf:
Cannot load /usr/local/apache/libexec/libphp4.so into server: ld.so.1: /usr/local/apache/bin/httpd: fatal: relocation error: file /usr/local/apache/libexec/libphp4.so: symbol ap_block_alarms: referenced symbol not found

/usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl start: httpd could not be started

Any help would be appreciated.

first of all don't use the apachectl directive to manipulate apache. If you know where your init script for apache resides then you avoid alot of sub-system specific problems. go to your init script for apache and stop it. then go to your httpd.conf file if that is what it is (rh*) and tell the httpd.conf file to use "LoadModule php4_module modules/libphp4.so" and in the same file lower "AddModule mod_php4.c" You must be aware of where your files are to edit them... also remember your perms!
