Apache 1.3.12 + PHP 4.0

Hi there,

I've compiled apache 1.3.12, php 4.0, mod_ssl together for an online commerece site. It compiled fine, but now with the web server running I can't even connect on the localhost host with the ip address using lynx. It simply says that the connection is refused. I have no clue where to even look for this one.

Hey,
you should find out what exactly the problem is first. Do a

ps -aux
and look if "httpd" is running at all. If it isn't, start apache from the command line with
httpd start
it will give you an error message there if it can not start. Further look at the error messages in
/var/log/httpd/
to see what apache has to complain about.

If that did not help, post another message..

Nope, if you want to start Apache with SSL enabled, you should use APACHE_DIR/bin/apachectl startssl
If you want to use Lynx browser to look at SSL-enabled pages, you should also install Lynx-SSL.

Of course, you should check whether Apache is running using 'ps -ax' command. And note, that Apache should be initially started as a root, allowing to capture 80 and 443 TCP/IP ports.
