Is is difficult to install PHP from source on a Virtual Server?
The company that hosts the site is running PHP but the php.ini file is in a directory not accessible to us and we would like the ability to have full control over the php implementation on our virtual server. We would also like the chance to upgrade PHP when we choose to.
Is there anything special to do during configuration?
Do we need any special permissions? Actually I think we can run as root so I'm not sure if that's an issue or not.
The server is BSD:
Berkeley Software Design
Virtual Server Operating System v6.0.0
with Apache running.
