cannot find header files

I have mysql 3.22.32 running with php3 on mandrake 7.0
I tried to upgrade to php4 and got an error during the configure. When I put a path with the --with-mysql=/blah I get "Cannot find header files under /blah", now I know the header files are there, I"ve looked, and yes...they like this dir that they are in. So why am I getting this error...????

also...when I don't include the path, it does seem to finish the configure, but comes up with a message saying that the path to mysql should be included.

I want to include the path( for those that will ask why I don't just config without it) and want to know why it doesn't see the files....and how I can make it work...

I'm experiencing the same problem -- on Mandrake 8.0. Admittedly, Linux seems to be easier than a SunOs 5.7/8 installation. HELP!!!

I'm running into the same issue on mac os x.
I know exactly where the header files are: usr/local/include/mysql
but it just keeps on failing

After many tries I got it to work with the following:

--with-mysql=/usr

As another note, I was experiancing the same issue on FreeBSD.... I used the --with-mysql=/usr/local this made results.

On OpenBSD 2.9 I also got results using --with-mysql=/usr/local after trying several others. Thanks!

thanks for that little bit of help in Suse i had the same prob but tried your /usr for the header files and viola it works!
