I got a real odd problem here...

I got this in an E-Mail...

"(PHP and Perl have nothing to do with databases anyway)"

Now, I could swear that PHP has a LOT to do with them, and I've read that Perl can do them as well with DBI, (tho its much harder). In months of searching though, PHP and MySQL seem to be the best at this, and yet I get that? Well, maybe I've missed something?

Well there is some truth in that statement......php,perl,asp, etc have the ability to interact with databases but they are not specifically database scripting languages such as say cold fusion is.

It is true though that the php/mysql combo is pretty hard to beat!

Hehe, thanks, just its the nothing that gets me, isn't it akin to saying that grills have nothing to do with toast? Or that water has nothing to do with tea?

Dont' get wrong: perl DBI is not more complex to use than php.

Well, php is a more adapted tool than perl for creating web things, but as far as database is concerned, perl dbi/dbd is a wonderfull module.

Perl dbi is a general dabatabase access module that will communicate to a 'driver' (specific database module). This means that an application written for say mysql will be changeable more or less easily to use a postgresql one (as long as your query does not use specific database queries).
