How to make php4.02 parse .php3 files

I've installed php4.02 in my windows 98 machine under pws. It works well with the .php file extensions. But it doesn't parse the .php3 files. It gives the error Http 500 error: the file cannot be displayed. I edited the registry with the ".php3" key and value "phpfile". I did the same with .phtm4 extension too.
I followed the instruction in the php manual.

If i ask for a .phtm4 extension file, the file is displayed without any parsing done on it.

Can any one help me.

What webserver are you running? If it is Apache, you have to edit you httpd.conf or apache.conf file to handle php3 files. Look for the line
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php

and add .php3 to the end.

I'm using the PWS web server along with the Win 98 os. I followed the steps mentioned in the php manual.I edited the registry.

I'm not familiar with this webserver, but the error is coming from the web server. Check it's configuration file(s). Look for the line that tells the server to use php for .php files. Tell it to also handle .php3 files. Check the manual.
