php scripts not running (php3 OK)

Windows 98, PWS Php php403.exe self installer
Mysql

I have installed the php403.exe file several times , added and removed the registry items as documented. Have execute rights where they should be and paths OK in the php.ini file.

My problem - all scripts with .php3 extension run perfectly (if I rename the test.php in installation directory to .php3 it shows all info) Scripts with just .php extension will NOT run - just comes up with the actual script - if anything, or access denied window.

Must be something silly - I would appreciate any tips please.

You need to change the PWS settings so that it recognises a .php file as something it needs to run through the php.exe executable. I dont know PWS, but somewhere in the settings it will have a mapping system of some kind to map .php3 to the php.exe. You need to add .php into that mapping as well.
