Apache upload speed!

Hi,

I'm trying to get my Apache 1.3.12 to work.
My problem is, that it simply doesn't transfer data fast enough. When someone tries to download a large file from my website he/she gets a maximum speed of 6,5 Kbit/s, while I can upload something to at ftp-server with more than 60 Kbit/s...

I think it might be Apache that is blocking for fast transmission, but can you disable this?

Apache does nothing to slow network traffic down.

If there is a slowdown anywhere it is in the internet connection. Uploads of 60kByte are nice, but that is upstream.
Webservers send files out to clients, while you are sending traffic in the opposite direction. Your downstream connection can be full while your upstream remains "fast".

Then there is the matter of where you are.
Downloads to destination A can be very much slower/faster than downloads to a different geographical location.
