PHP static or dynamicaly compiled?

Which is better guys? Compiling PHP staticaly or dynamicaly to Apache? I'm just looking for experiences and sugestions of what some of you have done. Currently I staticaly compile PHP, but is that really the best way? Best meaning in terms of performance, reliability, extensibility and maintainability.

I recommend the DSO version. Static linkage may sometimes yield slightly better performance, but it's such a hazzle for system administration.
