installing PHP web site

Hi

I’m an Access programmer who has been asked to investigate PHP and MySql. We have a web server which we need to host a site, which uses PHP, CD Graphics library and MySql. Can anyone tell me what needs to be done to get things up and running? I imagine that we need to install various things to get it to work on our NT server.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do?

That's sort of a loaded question. :-) I would start at the great PHP manual (www.php.net). Since you're running on Windows, I'd recommend the binaries (unless you've done a good bit of compiling on the Wintel architecture). What exactly is it you are trying to discover about PHP and MySql, that it's way better than ASP and Access? ;-)

Thanks for replying to my post. I have already come to the conclusion that Access is a little outdated!

We have an external supplier who has written a web site for us. They said that we need the server on which the site will be hosted to be able to implement PHP 4 scripts, MySQL and the GD graphics library for PHP.

Our web server is an NT 4 box SP5. I have just been asked (in my capacity as a software engineer) to find out what is involved in hosting the Php scripts, etc.

It's quite a general enquiry but I don't know a lot about Php! I'll take a look at the url you posted, thanks for that.

Hi I would suggest:

First get to know which websever is supposed to run your site.

Second get the php module for it. To run PHP it in simple cgi mode takes a lot of performance.

Third get the mysql binaries for win.

Php and mysql are well documentated and there are a lot of tutorials, how to get the system working. I'm sorry that i don't have any urls but you should find links easily.
