php3 and postgresql on Linux

I wanted to configure php3 to Postgresql on Redhat linux 6.1 , so I changed the rpm spec file and tried to build mod_php3 (using rpm -bb), but it didn\'t build. I got an error message like (patch: command not found!) Does anyone know what went wrong?

./configure didn\'t work for me either, I guess becasue I don\'t have a C compiler on my machine!! Where do I find free one on the Internet?

If ./configure failed, it could be a lot of things, but you could also be missing the autoconf utilities.

the biggest mistake people make when installing linux is not installing all the development stuff.

If you have a redhat 6.1 cd, it has everything on it you need to compile php and all. You just need to install the rpms for development from that cd to your machine.

I had a few problems with this as well ... until I discovered that the apache rpm on the redhat 6.1 cd is compiled with php3 support - i.e. install apache and psotgresql and you shouldn't have to do anything else except start writing!
