Lyric Database, One Step Further

I'd like to make a lyric database but take it one step further. I'd like users to be able to post comments about what the song means to them. I know I want to do this in MySQL and PHP.

I have some idea on how I can code the user functions but as far as how I'd like to structure the database itself, I'm clueless.

I'd like to use Artists as 'categories' and songs as 'nodes' and of course user comments as secondary nodes... does this make any sense? Anyways, how would I code the MySQL database to do this?

How would you tie another table into songs (in this case, user's opinions)?

HAHA I Get it! I did some thinking it and all comes down to IDs.

Say for example you want all of User X's opinions. Just get User X's ID, which would be say, Y, then goto your opinions table and get all the opinions where userid = Y. Wow!

HAHAH Go me... anyways.

id title artist
1 Title Song 3
2 Next One 6
3 Song Two 3
4 Love Me 3
5 Aaaah 1

How would I return a list of all of artist x's songs? Say, I want all of artist 3's song, how would I get it to return:

Love Me
Song Two
Title Song

...in alphabetical order.

(or did you already answer this for me?)

No matter what I query all I get is:

Resource id #2

Even in the simplest code like this:

$query = "SELECT title from songs where 1 and artist_id = 3";

$result = mysql_db_query("songmeanings", $query);
print ("$result");

Something's gotta be wrong here...

Hey, just to update everyone.

About 3 months later, I have programmed a fully functional lyric site--and more.

I'd just like to thank Patrick, when I wrote this thread I had like no knowledge of PHP and now I think I can tackle any problem.
