hardware compatibility

I'm putting together a FreeBSD/PHP/Apache/MySQL development laptop and wanted to know if anyone had a recommendation for a particular configuration?

I have done a linux/mysql/php/apache on a Pentium 100 w/ 48 meg memory and I have done it on dell 2450 w/ dual PIII 733, raid 5, half a gig of memory, it is just a matter of how much business you are expecting. The p100 can handle a small site with limited traffic, and the p3 733 is intended to handle multiple sites with a good amount of traffic.

I have never tried it on a laptop, but there is no reason why it wouldn't work on one.

I have heard that some displays may not work, just wanted to know before making the wrong hardware investment

After checking the Linux hardware how-to for FreeBSD compatibility information, why not go over to Starbucks and ask them to build you a house?

I'll tell you from my experience that, unlike the completely different animal called Linux, FreeBSD is VERY particular about hardware - so if it isn't on the list don't expect it to work.

The upside is that once it is working, FreeBSD is faster, more reliable, and generally better than Linux.

Whoops, my bad, I am not awake yet. You are right. FreeBSD is pretty particular about its hardware.
