newbie installation

The woes of us newbies🙂 I'm trying to install php4 on a RedHat7 box. Apache is working fine. I was able to get it running after a little work in the the httpd.conf file. I've been able to install MySQL and test it out (mysql 3.22.22) and it seems to be working fine. My trouble is with php-4.0.4.pl1. The line
./configure --with-apxs=/usr/sbin/apxs --with-mysql
is giving me errors. I don't have a path to /usr/sbin/apxs or /usr/local/apache. I can't seem to find a apache folder of the apxs file. I'm probably missing something important in there.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

It's possible the baseline apache install with RH7 does not include apxs. Compile/install apache from source including mod_so. I have a prefix of /usr/local/apache for my install and apxs is installed into /usr/local/apache/bin/apxs.

If you installed Apache from the Redhat 7.0 installation then try --with-apxs without specifying a directory. Normally php will build.

The apache modules are located in /usr/lib/apache
