I am trying to Install OMNI (got it from omnicron.ca via tucows.com) and PHP on my home computer. My only intention is to be able to build and TEST php pages without having to connect to my actual web hoster and the net in general. I have DSL as well, if this makes a difference.
OMNI was easy to install. Just a standard windows installation routine. PHP4 came with it, but I had to move a .dll file to the system directory. Then again, maybe I did something wrong. Nothing seems to be working. I thought I did everything right, but the installation/configuration insructions are sketchy. Every time I try to open a .php page off line the browser attempts to connect me to my DSL providor. I can't even view cached htm pages. This goes for IE and NN. Its like the OMNI webserver isn't being recognized.
Shouldn't I be able to see cached webpages offline, and open .php4 webpages? I can do neither. I set the IP to 127.0.0.1, which I was told was used for offline testing use.
Has anyone else done this installation? Sorry this post is so unorganized..I am bewildered.
