apache and win2k

I am trying to set up apache on a win2k machine and I have the server setup okay. two questions. php.net says I have to insert a couple of lines of texts to get it working correctly, but doesn't say exactly where. I assume this is the httpd.conf file?

second question. how do I establish a default file for my home page? ie, where is the setting for index.htm, index.php, default.htm, etc.. so my clients can just type in my FQD and pull up the page

Look for: DirectoryIndex and modify as you see fit.

eg:
