Problems installing PHP on Linux Suse 7

Hello,

i use Linux Suse 7 and i can not install PHP, even if Apache is well installed in
usr/local/httpd

1-I have unzipped the archive php-4.0.x.tar.gz in a new directory
2- when i launch the script: configure, i can read this error message :
" checking for a BSD compatible install.../usr/bin/ginstall -c"
" checking whether build environment is sane...configure :error :
newly created file is older than distributed files!"
check your system clock!

when i then launch "make", there is the message : "no targets specified and no Makefile found."

Somebody can help me?

I too had problems getting php to install on my SuSE 7 box. I had to get the rpm packaged for SuSE in order to get a successful install.

I don't know what platform you run under, but for an intel platform, you can go to this URL to get the mod_php4 rpm for SuSE 7.0.

Additionally, don't be surprised if you get dependency issues when attempting the install. Just get the specified libs (as SuSE rpms!) if needed.

I experienced the same problem.

A word of warning, I'm still trying to get php to work. It's installed but not running. Has something to do with the php.ini file.

At least in my situation, SuSe 7.1 did not have the lex (lexical analyzer) program required.

• downloaded Flex instead (couldn't find a copy of lex)
• installed it in /usr/local/bin
• created a symbolic link to new dir. flex

  mkdir /usr/local/lex

  ln -s /[path to flex]/ /usr/local/bin/lex/

• reconfigured php and repeated make

php installed, but now I'm stuck on the placing php.ini. hope this helps.
