I had real problems trying to do this even after going to the gd website. Not from a unix background, compiling this stuff didn't quite work. I ended up going to www.php4win.de, where they have pretty cool pre-packed php zip's with all the extensions with the correct build, etc. Just make sure you edit your php.ini and uncomment the loading of the php_gd.dll or whatever it's called. You'll have either GIF or PNG support, so I suggest finding out which by calling the appropriate functions, ImageGIF or ImagePNG. Hope this helps. If you need more in-depth send us a mail.
